Fourth Cape is an independent, sports management company specialising in sailing for commercial sponsors and private individuals, we strive to make big ideas a practical reality, delivering ambitious and commercially-successful sporting projects.
Drawing on a wealth of knowledge and over 40 years experience in the sailing sector, we have advised International Governing Bodies on the creation of bold new events, global brands on the activation strategy of sailing campaigns and private individuals around custom projects making Fourth Cape the perfect independent consultants for future projects.
Fourth Cape was created by founder and Managing Director Charles Darbyshire. Leaning on a wealth of experience from being part of the team that planned and built Ellen MacArthur’s round the world record-breaking trimaran, and the Route du Rhum winning IMOCA60 to creating and directing the Artemis Offshore Academy. His event experience extends to being part of the team that rescued The Transat, created the Barcelona World Race and the groundbreaking stadium sailing event – The Extreme Sailing Series. The same team was responsible for the creation of Oman Sail, an innovative national sports programme.
Charles’ circumnavigation was as part of the first big Oman Sail project - a record attempt to sail non-stop around the world from Oman, and in doing so, enable one of the Omani team to be the first-ever Arab sailor to complete the non-stop ‘lap’ - in doing so, creating a national hero.
During this circumnavigation, Charles passed the three great capes, Cape Leeuwin, (The most south-westerly mainland point of Australia), the infamous, Cape Horn, (The most southerly point of South America) and the Cape of Good Hope.
Fourth Cape is Charles' fourth great landmark.
For the last thirty years the team that makes up Fourth Cape have worked across multiple pan European and global projects from; technical consultations, brand activations, managing sponsorship portfolios to campaign management and are all bound by a spirit of adventure and thirst for taking on a challenge.
Together we have unrivalled experience in the sport of sailing, having managed projects including Dame Ellen MacArthur’s world record circumnavigation of the globe and the creation of Britain’s first-ever offshore sailing academy tasked with developing the next generation of top-level international sailors.
